Woman's Semi-Pro Player Joins the Spartans Coaching Ranks

The SoMD Spartans are proud to announce that Terry Pate, a former DC Women's Semi-Pro League player, has joined our family as a head coach after completing the Spartans Coach Apprenticeship program. Ms. Pate played four seasons in the the Semi-Pro League where she was a team co-captain for three years.  She played for four years in which her team was city champions all four years.  Once she earned the Honorable Coaches Award and was selected as Tournament All-Star.

Coach Pate played high school basketball in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) for the Academy of the Holy Names. There she was a 4-year starter earning a selection to the League's All Star team during her senior season.  She also recorded 1000+ assists and 500+ rebounds throughout her high school career.  After high school, Terry went to Louisiana State University/Southern University where she earned a B.S. in Medical Technology.

​Coach Pate has been helping kids since she was 12 years old. During the summers, she can be seen instructing youth on the fundamentals of basketball as a coach at the Coach Wootten Basketball Camp. She also tutors students through her affiliation with Wyzant Tutoring. Previously, she coached, tutored, and mentored basketball students at Grace Brethern Middle School. Terry is such a giving person, that she donated her left kidney in May 2016 while working as a Blood Banker at the Washington Hospital Center.  "We're honored to have Terry join us. She wants to have a positive impact on the lives of young ladies. She fits right in with our organization's philosophy of coaching and teaching our players whether its through basketball or life lessons learned through playing sports," said Spartans President Andre Copelin. She coaches Spartans 5th Grade Black for the Spring/Summer 2018 season.
